Behind Matriarch Eats
Inspired by journalist Anastasia Miari’s Greek grandmother, Matriarch Eats is a project that collects and shares the stories that have seasoned grandmothers’ recipes all over the globe. There’s no food quite like that of our grandmothers and this project is an ode to the great matriarchs of this world.
Anastasia Miari has been cooking with and interviewing grandmothers for six years. She holds a Guild of Food Writer’s Award for ‘inspired storytelling and great journalistic integrity’.
She freelances for Lonely Planet Guides, Monocle Magazine, Konfekt Magazine, the Guardian, the Sunday Times and is Courier magazine's Athens-based correspondent.
Anastasia is also the author of Grand Dishes, Time-perfected stories and recipes from grandmothers of the world (Unbound, 2021).
Published in spring 2023, YIAYIA is a cookbook of regional recipes and stories from Greece’s grandmothers. Published by Hardie Grant, YIAYIA journeys the diverse regions of Greece for dishes that burst with the flavours of the nation.
